Vocabulary
* Indicates a word the teacher uses to help students start to understand

1. Identify ways that organisms depend upon their environment.

Know elements of a habitat

Students will study plants and animals. Through observation, lecture, reading, and experimentation, they will identify ways the organism, depends on and interacts with the environment.

Students will be able to demonstrate orally, in writing or through a performance an understanding of the characteristics of a living thing.

2. Describe how almost all animals' food can be traced back to plants.

Understand the concept of a food chain

Investigate food chains (for example: mealworms or lobsters).

Students will illustrate the food chain of mealworms or lobsters.

3. Give examples of how one change in a system affects other parts of the system.

Know impact of a change on a food chain

Students will use the text to examine how one change in a system effects other parts of the system

Resources
Grade 2 Science, McGraw-Hill:
Finding Clues From the Past, Chapter 3; Rocky Homes Chapters 9

Predict orally, in writing, or using a diagram what would happen if there were a change in one part of the system.

4. Describe different ecological systems on earth.

Contrast /compare different ecosystems

Compare one ecosystem to a local system (see 2B-5)

Resources:
Grade 2 Science, McGraw-Hill: Rocky Homes Chapters 9

Students will be able to identify (draw / explain / discuss) some of the differences between the ecosystems.

5. Describe a familiar local environment.

Identify parts that make up an environment

Explore a local environment.

Students will be able to identify (draw / explain / discuss) some of the differences between the ecosystems.
